OFFICIAL: Mikel Landa prolongs contract with Soudal - Quick-Step - "Podium of the Giro d’Italia that’s my dream"

Soudal - Quick-Step is a team that has built a climbing core over the past years because of Remco Evenepoel but the truth is that nowadays it expands beyond the Olympic Champion. Mikel Landa was a cornerstone of this change, and the Belgian team have managed to secure the Basque climber until 2026 on a new contract.

Two days before the Giro d'Italia's Grande Partenza in Albania, the Belgian team has announced the re-signing of Landa, who has been part of the team since the start of the 2024 season and has continued to put in brilliant climbing performances. Just this morning, UAE Team Emirates - XRG also announced the renewal of Adam Yates, showing just how much movement in the market exists in early May already. Landa's deal was expected taking into consideration his role in the team and the results and consistency he's achieved since joining the team.

“I’m really happy to continue with the Wolfpack. I feel one of them and really at home here after one season and a half and I’m looking forward to fighting for new goals," Landa said in a press release. "I already have many beautiful memories, from my first outing for the team, when I helped Remco win Algarve to finishing runner-up in Catalunya and then supporting Remco at the Tour de France, where he concluded on the podium after a great team effort.”

This will further contribute towards his motivation ahead of the Corsa Rosa. “Looking ahead, I would like to be on the podium of the Giro d’Italia! That’s my dream and I will fight for it! It’s been three years since my previous Giro presence and I’m excited to be going there again," he admits. "I have a love-hate relationship with the race, with many beautiful moments and also some difficult ones, but this doesn’t stop me from dreaming that I can do something nice there. After the Giro, I will then go with a lot of motivation to the Tour, hoping that my experience and effort can help Remco be again on the podium”
