UCI Rankings Rider update: Pogacar is unstoppable as Del Toro overhauls Vingegaard and Seixas closes in

The 2026 Tour de France is in the books, authored, once again, by Tadej Pogacar. The Slovenian drew level with the historic record of wins in the Grande Boucle alongside Eddy Merckx, Miguel Induráin, Bernard Hinault, and Jacques Anquetil.
With the race over, it’s time to assess the UCI WorldTour Ranking based on the points scored by the riders. Unsurprisingly, UAE’s star is out in front. But keep a close eye on Remco Evenepoel, Isaac del Toro, Paul Seixas, Juan Ayuso, and the Movistar Team riders.
In 2026, Pogacar already has 8,556.8 points. The Slovenian won the Tour de France overall, netting 1,300 points. He also took 5 stages, finished 2nd in the mountains classification, and wore yellow for 16 stages, including 3rd in the Barcelona team time trial, 2nd on stage 2, another 2nd on stage 15, another 2nd in the individual time trial, and 4th on stage 20. All told, that makes a total haul of 3,493.75 points from the Tour alone.
Pogacar’s historic exhibition leaves him almost 4,000 points clear of second-placed Remco Evenepoel. The Belgian finished 2nd overall at the Tour, claimed two stage wins, and stacked multiple top 10s across the race. Thanks to that he sits on 4,716.6 points and stays ahead of an increasingly irresistible Isaac del Toro.
The Mexican is 3rd in the standings with 4,208.5, moving ahead of Jonas Vingegaard. In his first Tour de France, Isaac del Toro finished 3rd overall. He also won stage 2, teed up by a gesture from Tadej Pogacar. Factoring in his full impact, he sits 40 points ahead of Vingegaard who, due to his abandonment, barely scored at the Tour (he has 4,160.8).
Paul Seixas rounds out the top five. The Frenchman made history by achieving the best result for a 19-year-old since 1903. With 4th overall, Seixas banked 750 points, plus his haul from the mountain stages and the time trial. He currently has 4,030.4 and is closing on Jonas Vingegaard, who may not race again this season.

Rankings shaken up by Tour de France
In sixth sits Jasper Philipsen, a stage winner and 2nd in the Tour’s points classification. Although the Belgian isn’t racking up his usual volume of victories, his consistency keeps him among the leaders on 2,931.6. Close behind is teammate Mathieu van der Poel on 2,740.6 after two Tour stage wins, including the spectacular Montmartre finale.
Who’s in 8th? Lenny Martínez, who delivered the finest Tour of his young career by finishing 5th overall. He has 2,662.4 to edge ahead of Mauro Schmid, another major Tour protagonist with a stage win, who is 9th and just 24 points back (2,638.8). The top 10 is completed by Tom Pidcock, who raced boldly throughout, finishing 9th overall after animating multiple breakaways.
Juan Ayuso is the best placed of Spanish riders at the moment in 25th. He has 1,475.5 points, 756.25 of which came at the Grande Boucle. In other words, half. His 7th place overall is the main driver of this leap.

Especially since Vingegaard got kicked out of the tour and was not able to show himself on stages where he would be at his best (even though he probably still would have lost) Merlier a winner, we have often seen the best sprinter win at least 4 stages or otherwise all, he was beaten by Kooij and did not even finish the tour. 3 stages is good but doesn’t beat 2 stages and a second place overall while being competitive in a few others stages.JoostMehrtens28-07-2026

- I've told that before: salary cap is not sustainable. If you try to somehow impose it by controlling contracts, the companies behind teams would simply make a workaround by eg establishing some company under the cyclist's name to found him or just send the money to his family. - Salary cap would have no impact. I suppose one good helper is nice in case of emergency, but outside of that Tadej needs very little. He won his first TDF by (mostly) sitting on TJV. Since then his team has gotten better, but it's irrelevant on the monster solos that provide most of his time gaps. I mean, with or without Yates he was going to set Alpe d'Huez on fire, right? And heck, Tadej did more to support Del Toro than Del Toro did for Tadej. Take away both those guys and what would be different about this TDF? Not much.MidnightRider28-07-2026
- This has nothing to do with tactics, domestiques, course design, or anything else other than pure power. Mike Tyson famously said "everyone has a plan until they get hit in the mouth." Wout and MVDP can manage Tadej on the flats, (barely) but on pretty much every other terrain, Tadej can deal knockout blows all by himself. As long as he is on this level there is no rule change or strategy that will change outcomes. Either someone rises to his level or he will just keep winning.MidnightRider28-07-2026
