The 2025 season will not start as Remco Evenepoel would have liked. The Belgian suffered a training accident in early December. After crashing into the open door of a postal van, the Soudal - Quick-Step star suffered a series of injuries that delay his season by several months.

Moreover, the latest update on the Soudal Quick-Step star's health status adds a new obstacle to his recovery: "After the tests I had a few days ago, positive news came, but also an additional problem emerged," Evenepoel began by pointing out to Sporza.

"There's a nerve problem and my shoulder is quite inactive. I will have to work hard to stimulate the muscles in that shoulder to make it 'live' again. The recovery will take a little longer than expected, compared to what we thought," adds the double Olympic champion.

The date Remco Evenepoel had set for his return to competition was at the Brabantse Pijl, which will be contested on April 18. He is still thinking about that race, but with this problem he also states that if it is necessary to delay his return, so be it: "We still have that race as the starting point of the season, but we can also move forward if necessary".

With this obstacle in the way, the question is clear: does the Tour de France 2025 jeopardize in any way? "Luckily, it's still a long way off. There's certainly time to evaluate the thing, but I'll have to see in what condition I can be at the start of the Ardennes Classics," reassures Remco Evenepoel.

If all goes well, the Belgian will once again lead the Belgian team at the Grand Boucle, after it's been made clear he could not aim for the Giro d'Italia with realistic ambitions even if it was originally in his goal list for the year.
