Riding solo for 30 kilometres,
AG2R Citroën team rider
Nans Peters clinched the victory at
Trofeo Laigueglia, marking his first win of the season and his third career victory.
Peters was originally focused on supporting his leader, Benoit Cosnefroy. “I felt very good and wanted to help Benoît tactically. I, therefore, decided to attack with 30 kilometers to go.” he told SpazioCiclismo.
When the situation demanded a shift, he promptly selected the appropriate course of action. “We had Cosnefroy as our main asset to play, but already after the first lap at the local circuit we realized that the descent could be a decision. And that turned out to be the case”, he explains.
He decided to ride the final kilometres as a time trial, riding solo and keeping his lead of over a minute intact. “Every kilometre, I got more confident, especially in the descent. The rain made it more difficult for the pursuers, and I took advantage of that. I told myself to ride a time trial without thinking about what was happening behind me,” concluded Peters.
