Nairo Quintana: The team did a superb job of isolating Wellens so I could attack him

After getting his second overall classification win of the year, Nairo Quintana has kicked off his season the same way as in 2020 and will enter the spring with really good form and ambitions.

"I'm happy to win this race for the team, the sponsors Arkéa, Samsic and for me. It is really a great joy. I have good form, and when it is like that I try to take advantage of it as much as possible," Quintana said after conquering his second win of the season in Blausasc.

He went on to congratulate the team for the collective performance that lead to their success. After having attacked with 35 kilometers to go, he joined Nicolas Edet and Lukasz Owsian to create the winning gap over Tim Wellens: "The Arkéa Samsic team did a very good job, and we are all happy. I knew the roads because I had trained on them often. I attacked from distance, but the team did a superb job of isolating Wellens so I could attack him."

"Everyone is focused on the World Tour objective to obtain at the end of the season, and I feel that the group continues to progress year after year," he added.

Quintana will now race at the Faun-Ardèche before his next main goals: "I will now work for Paris-Nice in order to keep this form which is mine and have a good race."
