Movistar's DS on Fernando Gaviria: "We want to get him to perform and achieve victories"

Fernando Gaviria will be riding for Movistar from 2023, and Sports Director has high expectations from the Colombian rider.

During his interview with Marca, he shared his expectations for the sprinter. "Fernando Gaviria comes to look for the locker of victories. He is a great sprinter who has already demonstrated the quality he has since he was very young", said Patxi Vila.

He further adds, "We hope that here he finds a place where he can express himself. Between all of us, we want to get him to perform and achieve victories, that's why he has come here."

Vila wants Gaviria to contribute to the team's effort in classics though it's not his forte. "The big races are our challenge, but also the classics. In San Remo he can also do very well. We have made him do the big classics and I think he can do a great job there."

Although the Colombian rider did not have a great season, Vila believes the upcoming season will bring him great results. "I see him as a very motivated rider, with a desire to compete and raise his arms. I see someone with a high level of commitment. For me, high performance always starts with an initial commitment from the athlete,"  concluded Vila.
