18-year-old
Albert Philipsen made a strong impression
at the 2025
Tour Down Under by winning the youth classification. The Danish
rider, who rides for
Lidl-Trek and was born in 2006, finished 17th overall in
the general classification. This marks a significant achievement in his young
career, having only turned 18 last September.
“I would definitely say that being in front at the end of
the third stage was the most important moment. It was really nice to be there
with all the riders I admired on TV,” said Withen Philipsen,
as reported by Feltet.
“Yesterday was tough. I got caught before the last climb and I also felt the
heat. It wasn't my best day, but it's part of the growth process.”
Reflecting on his experience, Withen Philipsen added, “I can
say that it was a good start to the season and that after the race I definitely
have a bit more confidence in myself.”
So, after
Mads Pedersen,
Jonas Vingegaard and many of the
other supremely talented Danish rides we have become accustom to seeing, is
Philipsen the next great talent? Only time will tell, but certainly he is off
to a very strong start in 2025 and Lidl-Trek will be very happy.
