Today's stage of the
Tour de France saw the peloton control the breakaway in order to fight for the stage win, as Jumbo-Visma and Team BikeExchange - Jayco reeled in the three-rider move and saw Wout van Aert and Michael Matthews go head to head in an uphill sprint in Lausanne - to the advantage of the Belgian rider who extended his lead in the green jersey.
It was a day which saw a mass crash near it's beginning which caused several casualties. There were two riders abandoning the race today, and several more injured:
(141) Rigoberto Urán - Right elbow wound and right hip road rash.
(118) Kevin Vermaerke - Fracture of the outer third of the clavicle (DNF).
(111) Romain Bardet - Left knee wound.
(47) Max Schachmann - Facial road rash. Road rash to right knee and elbow.
(192) Guillaume Boivin - Nose bleed.
(31) Ben O'Connor - Left hip pain. Seen at the X-ray truck.
As for the fines for the day, they were the following:
UAE Team Emirates DS Andrej Hauptman (Unidentified Rider) - Throwing bidons outside waste areas. 500CHF fine.
(88) Fred Wright - Throwing bidons outside waste areas. 500CHF fine. Penalty of 25 UCI points (1st offence).
