Mathieu van der Poel has completed an extraordinary long-range victory on the final stage of the 2026 Tour de Luxembourg, attacking almost from the gun and spending virtually the entire 177-kilometre day out in front before winning in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg.
The Alpecin-Premier Tech leader launched his move with around 175 kilometres remaining and quickly established himself alone at the head of the race.
Van der Poel collected maximum points over the Côte de Nommern, Montée de Gralingen and Côte de Kautenbach, building a large enough tally to also secure the mountains classification.
His advantage over the peloton grew beyond six minutes at its largest before the chase began to make gradual inroads through the second half of the stage. Even then, Van der Poel never looked in serious danger of being brought back.

A six-rider chase group briefly formed between Van der Poel and the peloton, but that move was eventually swept up as Soudal Quick-Step, Lidl-Trek and EF Education-EasyPost contributed to the pursuit. Van der Poel still reached the finishing circuit with several minutes in hand.
Mikkel Honoré later emerged as the nearest chaser, but the EF Education-EasyPost rider remained almost two minutes behind as Van der Poel headed towards the final kilometres.
The Dutchman duly completed one of the longest solo victories of the season, adding a second stage win of the week after also taking the opening day in Luxembourg. The ride came just days before the World Championships in Montreal, where Van der Poel will arrive after using Luxembourg for a final block of race intensity.
Behind, Davide Piganzoli safely completed the final stage to seal overall victory for Team Visma | Lease a Bike. The Italian had taken control of the race on Stage 3 before strengthening his position with victory in the Stage 4 individual time trial. He began the final day 47 seconds clear of Matteo Vercher, with Thomas Gachignard at 49 seconds and Aurélien Paret-Peintre at 54.
With Visma controlling the GC battle through the closing circuit, Piganzoli completed the job as Van der Poel provided the spectacular final-stage send-off.
