The Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team rider suffered a crash today which took him several minutes to get back on the bike, after he reportedly crashed on his head and required a new helmet. His teammate Michael Morkov also crashed but escaped relatively unhurt.
Around 50 kilometers into the fourth stage at the UAE Tour Mark Cavendish appeared to struggle upon riding over a speed bump and loosing control of his bike, which consequently saw him crashing alongside his teammate. Although he had to be checked by race doctors, he got up and managed to finish the stage into Jebel Jais. This is the second crash of the season for the Briton has has also crashed in a crosswind section at the Tour of Oman.
With two sprint stages coming consecutively now, it is expected that Cavendish will be back to the head of the race as he seeks to achieve at least one more win until the end of the race, and will have full focus from his team to do so, as GC leader Fausto Masnada failed to stay with the peloton on today's stage.
