Long-term contract extension for Mathieu van der Poel means Dutchman will likely finish career with Alpecin-Deceuninck

After the announcement of his record 10-year(!) sponsorship extension with Canyon, Mathieu van der Poel has now also secured his long-term future with Alpecin-Deceuninck.

“This is a logical choice. The team and I have grown together to what we are achieving today and are still making progress every year. We are hungry for more. This is the perfect team for me to combine road, cross and mountain biking,” says van der Poel, delighted by the announcement of his extension with the team that has supported him so much over the years.

Already one of the longest serving riders at one team, van der Poel's new deal that extends until 2028, is likely to mean the Dutchman sees out the remainder of his professional career with Alpecin-Deceuninck. “From the beginning of our collaboration, we made long-term planning with Mathieu and we are happy to continue this project. We are also hungry for even more success,” says team boss of Alpecin-Deceuninck, Christoph Roodhooft.

Alpecin-Deceuninck will now be hoping such an announcement also secures the future of recent Milano-Sanemo winner, Jasper Philipsen as the Belgian considers his next options in a contract year.
