Mathieu van der Poel and Canyon have extended their relationship for an unprecedented ten years it has been announced.
Just a couple of days after playing a massive role in the Milano-Sanremo victory of his teammate, Jasper Philipsen, van der Poel now has even more reason to celebrate. “I will certainly still be a professional rider for the first half of those ten years, followed by five years as an ambassador, but if after those first five years I decide to continue racing at professional level for even longer, that is also possible. It is probably my last contract in my career,” says the World Champion of the announcement.
The deal between Canyon and the Dutch superstar began initially back in 2017 when he started to focus more and more on his road racing career. “Canyon is a fantastic partner for me. We have developed bicycles together that have helped achieve the successes of recent years, but my hunger for success is far from satisfied. There are still several milestones to be achieved on my agenda, such as the Games in Paris," van der Poel continues. "Canyon and I share the same winning mentality. With this new long-term contract, we jointly underline our ambitions for the next phases of my career.”
"If the last 8 years are anything to go by, we are in for quite the ride," says Canyon's official announcement. "163 victories across 3 disciplines speaks for itself, but the manner in which Mathieu van der Poel rides is what has us all on the edge of our seats. Tenacious."
