Good morning and welcome to the liveblog of the Giro d'Italia. Today is all about the Blockhaus. It is the first true high mountain test of the race and there is nowhere to hide. Any rider with ambitions for the general classification must be at their very best. It is a brutal examination of endurance, climbing legs. The road to the summit of Blockhaus has often delivered major differences in the fight for the pink jersey and today should be no different. The gradients are relentless, the pace will be fierce and every weakness risks being exposed on one of the most iconic climbs in Italian cycling. - A lot of people get very annoyed by whatever anyone on screen does or says these days and then need to vent because they feel it’s a personal attack on them, their right to enjoy themselves, not listen to stuff they don’t line or agree with, not see things they don’t like, or people they can’t stand. ‘ Then (for the least worrying consequence) they themselves annoy a lot of other people telling the world how upsetting it is for them to have to endure that. And why does this matter to you so much, have you not built up a basic tolerance towards behaviour that bothers you from the many thousands of people that pass you as you go about your daily life? Are the characters on screen beamed into your private space there just for your personal expectations? - Not a race or stage goes by without a crash these days and it’s everywhere not just at cobbled finishes. Much of the time this kind of criticism is just deflecting responsibility, some riders obviously feel they no longer have any when it gets critical. Maybe they need to start thinking about using tech to teach them. Tag bikes like in fencing so they give off a signal when there is contact and punish the first two riders who set off a crash (as well as whoever provoked the situation if there was no contact but images or proof of their responsibility is available). That would go some way towards making sure riders keep more appropriate distances. Trouble is, speeds have gone up and brakes are better but spacing hasn’t increased and reaction times aren’t better so it’s totally logical there are more crashes.Mistermaumau14-05-2026
