Quite a dramatic crash on a bridge in Etoile de Besseges. Valentin Ferron was lucky because it wasn't that high. Hope everyone is ok. #EtoiledeBesseges
Stage 2 of the Etoile de Bessèges this year will be marked as one of the darkest days of the season, as a mass crash over a bridge saw several riders injured and the race neutralized due to the lack of available medical services. Over a dozen riders came down in the crash, many of which with meaningful injuries,
Cyclingnews compiled a list of the riders who came down, accounting to at least 21 affected. The peloton had been riding at speed when there was a narrowing at a small bridge, where many came down. Valentin Ferron was hanging over the side of it, whilst GC contenders such as Dylan Teuns, Ben Healy, Benoît Cosnefroy and Michal Kwiatkowski were all affected.
The stage ended up without a winner, as the neutralized peloton rode through to the finish calmly, with the crash taking place just over 20 kilometers to go from the finish. A dozen riders did not start stage 3, largely due to this crash.
