In and out, Luca Guercilena has been in charge of the Lidl-Trek project for more than a decade. However, his spell had come to an end this summer. Right after the 2026 Giro d'Italia had ended, a major shake-up on upper-echelon staff positions hit Lidl-Trek, Visma | Lease a Bike and Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe, after which Guercilena ended up linked to no project.
But this state of affairs won't last long as journalist Daniel Benson as well as Italin outlet CyclingTime report.
The 52-year-old Italian will not return as a team manager of any lineup but instead, he'll take on a brand new role as a race organizer at Italy's leading party RCS.
Whilst RCS stands behind many high-level competitions, the main item on their portfolio is naturally the Giro d'Italia. Whether Guercilena is the right man to take over some of the retiring Mauro Vegni's responsibilities and be at hand of new Giro director Stefano Allocchio is however unclear at the moment.
Benson indicates that for the moment, Guercilena is intended to have a role outside of the Corsa Rosa, indicating that we could see the Italian work behind the scenes at venues such as the Gran Piemonte or Il Lombardia.

This would come in line with Benson's information that the collaboration between RCS Sports and Guercilena starts in September, with enough time to learn the organizing mechanisms before moving on to the greatest stage.
