Alejandro Valverde is part of the Movistar Team staff that has crossed the Atlantic to take part in the Tour Colombia. The former professional rider has been very active on social media in recent days and has been seen training with Nairo Quintana and the rest of the team.

At the Tour Colombia team presentation he spoke to the local press and expressed his joy at being in the South American country, stating that "I am delighted to be in Colombia, delighted with the way the fans have received me".

The rider from Murcia highlighted the fact that Movistar has always been a team that has always looked at Colombian talent, with multiple Colombian riders in the current squad, stating that "the team has always had Colombian riders and this is the year I think it has the most. This year everyone is doing very well. Also with the return of Nairo, let’s see if he can enjoy and get a victory".

Yes agreed Abstract there is no love lost between the two of them. For Quintana it's early days but Quintana needs to show something in this Tour of Columbia to justify Moviestar's faith in bringing him back into the team. A stage at the least or top 5 will be a big result. It does seem odd that they took him back though as Unzue said when he left Moviestar that “He's no longer with us because we believe that his moment to fight for the grand tours has passed,” and at that time he intended to build the team around Mass and Soler. Quintana couldn't do anything against Froome in the TDF back then. He is past his best and even less likely to do much when up against Vingegaard or Pogacar in this years tour.

The history of Quintana and Valverde is not cordial. this may have been a light dig at Nairo's capability to win.
