2024 Tour de France Femmes winner Katarzyna Niewiadoma had been one of the pre-race favourites heading into Strade Bianche 2025. Sadly for the Pole though, disaster struck at around 50km to go as her race ended in a crash.
There was genuine concern for the CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto too as she lay strewn on the ground in the immediate aftermath of the crash, surrounded by teammates and seemingly having real difficulty in remounting. Now, the 30-year-old's partner, Taylor Phinney, has provided a welcome update on the condition for the reigning Tour de France Femmes Maillot Jaune. "Kasia is OK just road rash and hit her head…luckily I was 2km away and made it to her just in time to ride w/her in ambulance to hospital. Waiting to do some precautionary X-rays," writes the American in a post on his X (Twitter) account. "She’s in good spirits, mostly pissed she couldn’t race."
In Niewiadoma's absence at the front of the race, Demi Vollering took the victory on Saturday afternoon, powering away from Anna van der Breggen on the final climb to the line.
💥 Drama for the last winner of the Tour de France Femmes!
