It has been an incredibly complicated season for Julian Alaphilippe, however despite so many setbacks, he will be present in Australia later this month in an attempt to take a third set of rainbow stripes.
According to Het Nieuwsblad the Frenchman is back to training and has his participation in the World Championships confirmed. Alaphilippe has had all his plans turned on their head as a crash in Liège-Bastogne-Liège prevented him from racing his normal schedule at the Tour de France, upon returning he tested positive for Covid-19 at the Tour de Wallonie and then he crashed out of the Vuelta a Espana after 11 stages.
His title defense in Wollongong didn't seem to be at risk after he was only diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder - putting away fears of a broken collarbone. He has returned to training in the meantime, however questions can rightfully be put on his form, which he hasn't been able to build on properly since the spring.
France is yet to confirm their lineup for the upcoming World Championships but Alaphilippe is likely to be riding alongside Christophe Laporte and Valentin Madouas who have been showing great form over the last few weeks.
