Juan Ayuso may be only twenty years old himself, but the Spaniard is already coming with his own youth team. With the help of the Fundación Ayuso foundation, the UAE Emirates rider hopes to prepare young talented riders from the province of Valencia for the big job, Spanish sports website Relevo reports.
Ayuso, who will celebrate his 21st birthday in just over two weeks, is already thinking about the future of Spanish cycling at a very young age. His training team will be built up from a foundation called Fundación Ayuso. This foundation not only looks at cycling, but also wants to commit itself to other (social) areas.
The youth team will operate from the Valencia region and next year will mainly contest regional and national competitions, with the occasional trip across the Spanish border. According to Relevo, Ayuso has already put together a selection and has already filled the places within the technical staff.
Ayuso thus follows in the footsteps of compatriots Alberto Contador and Alejandro Valverde. The two - now retired - Spanish cycling greats decided a few years ago to each set up their own foundation and youth team. For example, Valverde is now at the head of two U21 teams, one for the women and the men.
