Stage 2 of Tour of Oman finished on an uphill sprint finish, with Jesus Herrada of Team Cofidis taking the best ahead of the competition. The Spanish launched a powerful attack on the last 300 meters that granted him the stage win and leadership of the general classification.
Six riders formed the early breakaway, all from pro continental or continental teams, among them was the leader of mountains classification Jeroen Meijers (Terengganu Polygon Cycling Team). The remaining breakaway members were caught on the last 7 km close to the beginning of the hill finish.
On the approaching to the last climb we saw a good fighting for positioning and all ended in an explosive uphill sprint with Jesus Herrada of Cofidis taking the best.
Jesus Herrada (Team Cofidis) finished ahead of Maxim Van Gils (Lotto-Dstny) and Diego Ulissi (Team UAE Emirates) becoming the new leader of Tour of Oman.
