Jay Vine wins Tour Down Under as Simon Yates conquers final mountain stage

The Tour Down Under has been concluded and Jay Vine emerged victorious after six days of racing. UAE Team Emirates' new signing resisted the attacks on the final day to capture the overall classification, as Simon Yates took the honours for the stage win.

A group of 13 riders went up the road originally but were never let much of gap as several teams contributed to the chase, both for GC and KOM classifications' purposes.

Eventually the breakaway was caught early with around 30 kilometers to go, before a new small group went up the road the penultimate time up the final climb. However that too was a short-lived move, and it was all coming down to the hilltop finish.

Simon Yates made his move, as did Ben O'Connor in hopes they could take the stage win, but Jay Vine always managed to stay in the wheel. The trio went into the final sprint isolated, with Vine launching first, but Simon Yates sprinting to victory. However both riders would strike success.

Vine conquered the overall classification, finishing in front of Simon Yates and Pello Bilbao after all the math was made, with 11 and 27 seconds respectively separating the riders.
