Movistar rider Ivan Sosa has won the queen stage of the Tour de Langkawi. He overcame the harsh climb of Genting Highlands which has a climb rate of 8.6%, and crossed the finish line first to take the victory.
The breakaway included Eduard Grosu, Nur Aiman Zariff and Kane Richardst. Carter Bettles and Kongphob Thimachai tried to follow the group, Thimachai failed and joined the peloton, while Carter joined the trio. The group took a lead of over 4 minutes and 25 seconds.
The breakaway was caught by the peloton in the final 6 kilometres. Heavy rains and the final climb at an incline of 8.6% were not going to make it easy for the racers. In the final 3 kilometres, Hugh Carthy and Iván Sosa were leading by one minute.
In the end, Iván Sosa was the best and took the stage victory while Hugh Carthy finished second. Einer Rubio took the bronze.
