In taking a narrow victory on the first stage of
La Vuelta Femenina,
Jumbo-Visma also managed to secure their first win of 2023 on the women's World Tour, much to the delight of the new race leader
Anna Henderson.
“We are really very happy. It's our first win of 2023 and to win together is really great," the British rider revealed in a post-race interview. "We can be proud of this victory. Our reconnaissance was very good and we managed to execute our plan. We believed in each other. It's so nice to win together."
As Henderson was the first rider of the team to cross the finish line, she became the overall leader of the race, somewhat by default. As the remaining teams pushed the Jumbo-Visma time all the way, Henderson admits she was beginning to feel the nerves while sitting in the hotseat.
“I was really, really nervous in the hot seat,” she laughed. “During the time trial itself I had few nerves, because I knew we had done well. It is very cool to do it together like this.”
