Juan Ayuso has sent a real message to the rest of the Maglia Rosa hopefuls at the coming Giro d'Italia. In an impressive display over the past week in Italy, the Spanish star of UAE Team Emirates - XRG has secured the GC win at Tirreno-Adriatico 2025.
The victory was all but secured by Ayuso's stunning summit finish win on Saturday, meaning Sunday's stage 7 was mostly a day for the Spaniard to keep out of trouble and stay safe. Having done so with relative ease, the Ayuso now gets to celebrate perhaps the biggest win of his career to date. "The trophy, for sure, is the coolest, and the nicest one I have. It's going to have a special place at home," Ayuso smiled afterwards, holding the unique trident that is awarded to the winner of Tirreno-Adriatico. "I think we can probably say it's my biggest victory, this one as well with Itzulia Basque Country, but here I also won a stage, so I think it's the best performance I've done until now."
As touched upon already, with the Giro d'Italia looming, a real message has been sent to the likes of Primoz Roglic and co. "The Giro's a big goal," Ayuso concludes. "but it's three week's. It's a different story, it's a different kind of race. This race is really hard to win, and the Giro is another step. We'll take it day by day, and race by race, first we have Volta a Catalunya."
