Amongst the chaos and confusion caused by the untimely crash as stage 2 of the 2023 Giro d'Italia neared its climax, Kaden Groves impressed, sprinting to third place on the day and giving himself encouragement for the remainder of the race.
“It looks good for the rest of the race," said the 24-year-old Australian in his post-stage interview. "I didn't have the best feeling on this first day, but the guys rode fantastic and positioned me well for the sprint."
“There are definitely things that can be improved, because I think maybe we started the sprint a bit too early. Anyway, I was able to sprint along, although it was perhaps a bit too far for me," continues Groves who finished behind only the stage winner, Jonathan Milan and second-placed David Dekker. “The work the guys did today looks good for the rest of the race. I am certainly not disappointed.”
