With the resultant injuries of the crash including a dislocated collarbone and lung contusions, things are bad for the
Soudal - Quick-Step leader, but arguably not as bad as they could have been. As mentioned though, during the ordeal, Patrick Evenepoel and the rest of Remco's family were unable to get into contact with the former Vuelta winner to get reassurance over his condition.
“For us as a family, it was a particularly difficult day yesterday. Due to the malfunction at Telenet, it was impossible for Remco to reach either his wife or us. We were also unable to communicate with each other. As parents, we had to hear the news that our son was being taken to hospital from a friendly ambulance driver. Not being able to contact each other in such a situation is actually unacceptable,” he explains. “The coming weeks will be all about recovery. As a family, we will do everything we can to let Remco recover in the best conditions and with the best care.”
