Paul Seixas has got the cycling world at his feet following a breakthrough 2026 season that saw him prove his Tour de France contender status as well as take major victories - capping off the season with an Il Lombardia triumph.
Out of contract at the end of next season, the Decathlon CMA CGM is at the centre of a contract saga that has seen the French team build a project around keeping him around for the long term. All the while, UAE Team Emirates- XRG, Visma | Lease a Bike and other top teams have made no secret their desire to entice the 20-year-old to sign.
However, in a wide-ranging interview, Seixas addressed his future directly. While implying that Decathlon have a deal on the table, Seixas said that he won't rush to make a decision after spending his underage and junior years working towards securing a professional contract.
For now, he's in no rush. But that doesn't answer whether options outside the team have emerged or whether he finds the possibility attractive. When asked about the likelihood that he could sign for another team when he makes the decision, Seixas admitted that he is analysing all options at his disposal, and biding his time until the deadline to choose arrives.

"I analyse and I'll see what suits me best in time"

"So, for the moment, I prefer not to see it in 50-50 mode, but I look at what's going on a little bit everywhere. I analyse and I'll see what suits me best in time," Seixas told RMC in an extensive interview.
Such is Decathlon and others' desire to secure Seixas's services, the young prodigy has confirmed that his plans and requests carry major weight with his team - implying that the team's transfers, tactics and strategy have been influenced by him over the past year.
Seixas was also keen to point out that he's not interested in demanding things are always done his way, noting that the team's staff and riders also have a say. He acknowledges the power of his opinion on the team but knows that it's not all-consuming.

Seixas admits his words carry weight at Decathlon

"Yes, but I'm not here to decide everything in the team. I think there are also people who are relevant in the team, who do their job very well and who know what they're doing.
"That's why I'm not here to do everything my way. But it's still good that I discuss with them. There are things like that, that are missing. And I've talked about it with other players. We all agree."
He added: "But I don't think I'm going to do things my way. I'm going to do things in consultation with my teammates. I know I have the strength of the word in the team, but it also allows me to carry the voice of the whole team."
