Tadej Pogacar has written another piece of cycling history for himself and his nation this Sunday afternoon at the 2024 World Championships in Zurich. The Slovenian secured the road race victory and the Rainbow Jersey via an astonishing 100km attack.
Pre-race, much of the talk in regards to the Slovenian team was about how the superstar duo of Pogacar and Primoz Roglic would combine. As it turned out, Pogacar's race winning attack from so far out, negated any potential concerns over dual leadership. Nevertheless, Roglic spoke with immense delight in his post-race interview afterwards.
“It’s amazing. I’m very proud to be part of this historic moment," the recent Vuelta a Espana champion reflected in conversation with Eurosport post-race. “I think he followed his instincts. That brings him a lot of victories. It was great. Normally we race against each other, now we race together. It's really nice to be part of this victory."

be part? except a few seconds at the start, I didn't see him in the rest of the race: he didn't work for the team at all.
What a pity, he really could be part of the history if he had helped his young and talented fellow country (at least a little bit) demonstrating greatness, maturity and wisdom... but the selfishness seems to be stronger.

Yes part. First time Slovenia has won the world championship and he was part of the Slovenian team. If Roglic’s help had been needed it would have been late in the race. His role was never to be domestique at km 0.

He did pull at the climb before Tadej's attack. He was never to be a dedicated domestique but he did what he could.

What race were you watching? He was there to pull on the climb when Tadeg attacked. He didn't try and work to pull him back. This wasn't the Dutch womens team we're talking about!
