In a chaotic final two kilometres on stage 4 of the 2023 Tour de France, Fabio Jakobsen's chances of victory were slashed as became one of many riders to hit the deck. The 26-year-old Dutchman will never the less fight on, refusing to withdraw from the race.
"I’m here to race and I’m here to win," the Soudal - Quick-Step sprinter wrote on his official Instagram account on Wednesday morning before the start of stage 5. "So I’l be back on the bike today. Big thanks to the medical staff for taking care of me. And for your continued support - roadside and online."
As the race enters the Pyrenees for the first time in 2023, it's fair to say that Jakobsen won't be one of the favourites for victory in the coming days. The hope is though that he will be able to recover on the road and by the time the next sprinters stage comes around, Jakobsen will be once more in the fight for the stage win.
