"I'm aiming for a stage win, Maglia Ciclamino is a secondary objective" - Kaden Groves has priorities sorted ahead of Giro d'Italia 2023

Kaden Groves will be only riding Giro d'Italia for the first time, but he is determined to leave his mark immediately. In fact, Alpecin-Deceuninck has no goals for the general classification and the main objective will be stage victories.

“In recent years, Alpecin has won a lot at the Giro. There is a bit of pressure, but this year I was strong. In this new team I've shown that I'm also good uphill. For us Australians it is good to race in Europe. We are a big family and we often see each other even outside cycling. I like racing in this team and I've integrated well since the first training camp," Groves said ahead of the race.

Groves then also spoke about sprints and his goals for this race: “The Maglia Ciclamino is not the main goal. I want to win stages and the jersey will be a consequence: we'll think about it if I start winning more stages. The jersey is a secondary objective, we want the stages with me and with the other guys in the breakaway."

“There are many riders in good condition," he added. "I look forward to Mads Pedersen, also as challenger for the Ciclamino. I also expect Fernando Gaviria, who was strong in the Tour de Romandie, Vincenzo Albanese, Pascal Ackermann. But Pedersen I think he will be the main rival."
