Isaac del Toro made his debut in Tirreno-Adriatico with a good time 32 seconds behind his teammate and stage winner Juan Ayuso and 10 seconds behind Jonas Vingegaard.
The Mexican, who has started the season with a lot of strength, perhaps felt the effort of being Tadej Pogacar's teammate on Saturday in the Strade Bianche. "It was complicated for me, although it's good to give everything," he explained post-stage to Eurosport. "To start suffering is always good, although in Strade I was already suffering. It was good for me, although obviously you can do things better. Little by little and enjoying it."
After impressing earlier this year, del Toro is expected to slip into a domestique role for Juan Ayuso, who won the opening stage, here at Tirreno-Adriatico. "It's pretty good to be in a team like this because it's easy to make tactics and try to execute them, in a team like this with such good riders and such good people. We are here to learn and enjoy, obviously to be good on our legs so that if the opportunity comes up we can try to take advantage of it, but the important thing is to enjoy it," says del Toro.
Finally, he wanted to make it clear that he is very ambitious, but that it is his first year as a professional and he wants to enjoy it. "I'm motivated, I want to set the bar higher and higher for myself, but now that it's my first year I also want to enjoy myself and not just fill myself with responsibilities."
