Ide Schelling's adventure at Bora-hansgrohe seems to be coming to an end. The 25-year old Dutchman is another name on the longlist of riders who are expected to be heading to Astana Qazaqstan for 2024.
Schelling had a great start at WT level, performing very well at smaller one day races as well as showing up in breakaways very often. His ambitions took a huge blow in 2022 after corona infection. However Schelling bounced back strongly in 2023, winning a stage at Itzulia Basque Country and Tour of Slovenia, along several top 3 & top 5 finishes.
The Kazakh team led by Alexander Vinokurov is having a disappointing season and will be looking to replace big part of its current roster. Among other names linked to the team for 2024 are African champion Henok Mulubrhan and two climbers: Italian Lorenzo Fortunato and 20-year old Santiago Umba from Colombia.
Vinokurov recently proposed to Mark Cavendish (The Manxman announced he'd retire at the end of year) to continue for one more season. With this option in mind, the team is also exploring possibilities to add some depth into their sprint train. In this context, names of Max Kanter and Jake Stewart are being brought up quite often, but according to latest news, Stewart is no longer on the table for Astana.
