Looking ahead to the 2024 season, two things in particular are standing out to Lidl-Trek's Giulio Ciccone. A return to his homeland for the Giro d'Italia and the World Championships in Zurich.
"The Giro d'Italia, I love it and I would like to do it," says the three-time for stage winner at the Italian Grand Tour and King of the Mountains classification winner back in 2019, in conversation with the Bike Channel. "Especially after this 2023 edition which I had to miss because of the Covid."
Ciccone impressed at the Tour de France in 2023, adding a second King of the Mountains jersey win to his palmares. Taking a stage win and the polka-dot jersey at the Critérium du Dauphiné, Ciccone is fast becoming one of the premiere KOTM contenders in the entirety in the peloton.
In Zurich, the up-and-down route of the men's elite road race could prove a great opportunity for the Italian to crown himself world champion. "I saw the route of the 2024 World Championships road race and I think it suits my characteristics," Ciccone admits in conclusion.
