Whilst Tadej Pogacar was far and away the strongest in the field at the
Volta a Catalunya last week,
Mikel Landa was an impressive 'best of the rest' in second.
"I came without any expectations, because I hadn't raced for a while. I wanted to find the good feeling every day, but I felt better than expected," the climber told Marca. "It's a shame that Pogacar was here because it made winning very difficult. I knew he would be good, but was hoping to go with him and maybe wait until near the finish. But I was never able to do that."
Next up for the Spaniard is the
Itzulia Basque Country where Landa will revert to the role that
Soudal - Quick-Step primarily signed him for, super domestique for
Remco Evenepoel. Understandably, confidence is high for Landa after his most recent showing.
"I have very good legs again and renewed energy. I feel fresh, with the energy of 2015. I'm really looking forward to this season," he concludes. "I will enjoy the Itzulia Basque Country next week and am motivated in front of my home crowd. I look forward to racing with Remco and showing him the way. I think it's going to be a really good week.”
