Astana Qazaqstan Team are not having an easy season, however
Miguel Ángel López is making good tracks at the
Vuelta a Espana as he is showing his best form at the right time into the race.
He was a contender for today's stage that went into Sierra de la Pandera in Andalucia, and in the final climb he showed the good form that he has been growing throughout the past few weeks. As Evenepoel struggled, López and Enric Mas managed to bridge across to Primoz Roglic who had attacked earlier. The Colombian was the only one to manage to bridge across and hold the wheel of the Jumbo-Visma rider, and made good ground to finish the day second.
The duo could not catch Richard Carapaz, as he describes: "We saw him in the last km but, although Roglič and me went full gas, it was impossible to close that 10-15" gap, also because of that downhill part. As in 2017, I finish second, but things are going well. I hope we can continue this way."
Although he did not get the win, López' performance saw him rise to sixth in the overall classification. With rising form and a brutal - and suiting - stage tomorrow in Sierra Nevada, there are high expectations for the Colombian to perform.
