After a dramatic final two stages, full of attacks, Juan Pedro Lopez battled bravely to mark moves and follow his rivals, successfully securing the biggest victory of his career in the general classification of the 2024 Tour of the Alps.
Post-race, the Spaniard was understandably excited and emotional, even though it clearly hadn't fully set it just yet. "I finally did it, I did it with my team, it's my first victory, it's very important, I'm very happy," Lopez reflected. "The team did a wonderful job from the beginning to the end.
Fighting off some stiff competition from the likes of Ben O'Connor, Antonio Tiberi, Wout Poels and others, Lopez never looked like cracking and was always in the perfect place at the perfect time, following the right moves and nullifying any potential threat.
"I'm thinking about many people from my family, from my friends, from my team," the Lidl-Trek star concludes emotionally. "This is for Luca, the team manager, who is not having a good time".
