Stefan Kung won the last stage of the ITT of
Volta ao Algarve. The Swiss rider from Groupama-FDJ was one of the big favourites at the start of the time trial, and he managed to finish ahead of big rivals like Filippo Ganna and time trial world champion Tobias Foss.
" I felt good, and I knew this course suited me. It's also the first win for the team (Groupama-FDJ). We worked hard last winter on the position on the time trial bike and the material. So I want to say a big thank you to the performance team and the mechanics. Without the team I could not win here", Kung said in the post-race interview.
With this win, Kung was able to finish in 5th place in the general classification, an improvement compared to last year when he finished 7th overall. Kung was happy with this result, and he is a fan of the course of Volta ao Algarve.
"I think it's a very nice course. You can never get into the rhythm, so you must keep working hard all the time. The fact that the rhythm keeps changing is something I really like." Kung concluded.
