The Spring Classics are over, meaning it's almost time for the Grand Tours. For some, the preparation for these Grand Tours steps up at the 2025
Tour de Romandie, with the
UAE Team Emirates - XRG team being led by Portuguese star Joao Almeida.
"The Tour de Romandie is always a tough race, with unpredictable weather and really challenging climbs," previews the 26-year-old in a
pre-race press release to the official website of the UAE Team Emirates - XRG team. "I feel good about my form right now, and the team is motivated."
Almeida has already shown strong form in 2025 as well, finishing 2nd overall at the Volta a Comunitat Valenciana and the Volta ao Algarve, finishing 6th overall at Paris-Nice and most recently, winning the Itzulia Basque Country. As such, the Portuguese's confidence levels are high. “We’ll take it day by day and look for opportunities — hopefully we can fight for a strong result," Almeida concludes. "The win in Itzulia was amazing and I have a good feeling for the rest of the season as we get closer to the
Tour de France.”
