Stephen Williams was one of the pleasant surprises of this spring, starting hot with an overall triumph at Tour Down Under. Williams' season however culminated with an unexpected victory atop the famous Mur de Huy. The 28-year-old rider didn't stop there and after a victory in La Fleche Wallonne, he continued to also win the home Tour of Britain along with two stages.
Naturally, his team Israel - Premier Tech didn't take long to respond to such success, offering the Welshman a lucrative four-year contract extension that should see him wear the team colours also in its predicted return to WorldTour in 2026.
"It’s been a really positive season, one that I could only have dreamed of at this time last year," he admits with satisfaction, taking stock of his 2024. "To get the biggest wins of my career is extremely special, but the way I’ve stepped up this year has been wonderful. All the hard work over the winter in Andorra has paid off. It’s been a privilege to be part of this team in 2024, the most successful in its history so far: it’s been like riding with friends."
The Welsh rider will now obviously have to try to raise the bar even further. "I can't wait to improve further and try to win some nice races again in 2025," he adds confidently with his eyes now turned towards the first training camps with the team.
