Ever since loosing the yellow jersey on stage 11,
Tadej Pogacar has been on the offensive against Jonas Vingegaard and Jumbo-Visma. He wasn't able to win the fight between two titans, however he went down with one of the most aggressive displays one could think of.
On the penultimate climb, wanting to regain over two minutes, Pogacar launched a flurry of attacks looking to drop the yellow jersey, unsuccessfully. He put the pressure on once again in the descent, causing himself to
crash in the process. “It wasn't a bad fall, I just have some bruises," he said.
"Still, I felt it on the final climb. I still had hopes of doing something, but I couldn't follow," he added. Having given it everything over that ascent, he didn't have the legs to attack as Jumbo-Visma set a soaring pace in the ascent to Hautacam. Eventually he didn't have the legs to keep up with the pace, and was dropped in the final kilometers, fighting to limit his losses.
“I really gave everything today. I can't lose the Tour in a better way. So I have no regrets. Jumbo-Visma really did a perfect job this Tour, chapeau. They were just too strong today. The best man won," Pogacar concluded, likely accepting his defeat when it came to the fight for the yellow jersey which Jumbo-Visma have obliterated.
