The cycling world is abuzz as key changes unfold at one of
the sport’s most formidable teams in the women’s peloton. Demi Vollering has
left
Team SD Worx - Protime at the end of 2024, while
Lotte Kopecky has opted to stay,
setting the stage for a new chapter with
Anna van der Breggen joining the squad
in 2025.
Team boss Danny Stam reflected on the 2024 season in an
interview with
Het Nieuwsblad. He highlighted Kopecky’s superb season, who
defended her world title in Zurich in September. “At the World Championships, I
was biting my nails on the sidelines. But Lotte was so resilient in that race.
I really thought that was the best of the year,” Stam remarked.
The addition of van der Breggen, a cycling legend in her own
right who is making a
comeback for 2025, has raised questions about how team
dynamics will be affected. Stam, however, expressed confidence in the harmony
her presence will bring. “I think that will work out really well. In the past,
Anna has always been very loyal to her teammates. I think those two will be an
extremely beautiful match.”
As the team gears up for 2025, there are strategic decisions
ahead, particularly regarding Kopecky’s racing schedule. Stam hinted at
potential changes, saying, “The question is do we choose a different path for
once? If Lotte chooses to take a different path, that will have a big impact on
her program. We will look at it when Lotte returns from vacation, but we did
part ways with the idea of exploring the next steps next year.”
With these shifts, the team looks poised for a season filled
with anticipation and new challenges, as they integrate van der Breggen’s legendary
status into an already super team.
