"Having Evenepoel, Roglic and Vingegaard is simply incredible" - Javier Guillén on the startlist of the Vuelta a España 2023

World cycling is preparing for one of the most exciting events of the year, as La Vuelta a España 2023 promises to be a historic edition with the participation of some of the most prominent figures in the sport. Javier Guillén, president of La Vuelta, has stated that this will be one of the best editions in history thanks to the presence of great champions such as Remco Evenepoel, Primož Roglič and Jonas Vingegaard.

During the presentation of the eighth stage, which will take place in the province of Alicante on Saturday, September 2, Guillén highlighted the relevance of the cyclists who will ride through the Spanish geographies and expressed his surprise at the list of participants:

"If you tell me before the start of La Vuelta that we're going to have this participation, I don't believe it," Guillén commented enthusiastically. "To have reigning champion Remco Evenepoel, Giro d'Italia winner Primož Roglič and recent Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard is just incredible."

The president pointed out that he did not expect Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard to attend, and stressed that his presence is the icing on the cake: "Vingegaard's presence is the icing on the cake. I trust he will take this as a double and give his maximum effort. Winning the Giro and the Tour is hard enough, but the Tour and the Vuelta is not so hard."

The Jumbo-Visma team is also one of the great protagonists of this edition, as they have the opportunity to make history by winning the Giro, the Tour and the Vuelta in the same year. Guillén shared his thoughts on this exciting challenge:

"It's a very nice challenge for the Jumbo-Visma team. That opportunity means they don't come to speculate, they come to give everything with their two best riders, plus six other great teammates," said the also president of Unipublic.
