Crash puts Vuelta a Espana at risk for Hugh Carthy as he leaves Tour de l'Ain

Hugh Carthy is not having the best of luck this season. After a good start to the season he abandoned the Giro d'Italia with stomach issues, and now his Vuelta a Espana participation is also at risk following a crash at the Tour de l'Ain.

The Briton was leading the race yesterday with teammate Jefferson Cepeda and Michael Storer - who would go on to fight for the stage win - when he crashed in the final descent, noticeably hitting his head on the ground. He finished last on the day but was given the time of the front group, but he will not start stage 3 - three weeks before the start of the Vuelta.
