The sixth stage of Tirreno-Adriatico was the last chance for anyone with something left in their tank to take on flying Dane, Jonas Vingegaard. Among them was Jai Hindley, but even he had to acknowledge his superior in the Visma | Lease a Bike rider as he prepared for a sprint for second place against Juan Ayuso.
The BORA - hansgrohe leader eventually finished third behind the Spaniard on the day, and that is likely going to be Hindley's result in overall classifiaction too. Additionally, his teammate Lennard Kämna will accompany the Australian in eighth place overall, marking a solid week of racing in Italy for the German team.
"We had a plan today and everyone was very committed, so big thanks to the guys! We went full gas from the bottom of the final climb to see if we could put some of the GC guys in trouble. Halfway up the climb Jonas showed he’s the strongest and went solo. Ayuso and I came to the line together, unfortunately I was outsprinted - but that’s bike racing. In any case, I’m happy with our performance as a team and where we are at the moment," Hindley expressed in press release.
