The EF Education-EasyPost rider was the strongest in the opening stage of Gran Camiño as he took a sprint win. Magnus Cort Nielsen is the first leader of the race, and will try to defend it tomorrow up the Mirador de Ézaro.
The opening stage of the new Spanish event was set to be the race's sole sprint finish that saw the riders ride into Vigo. Several teams had their riders will positioned for the highly technical finish, several sprinters had to close gaps in the final meters as riders from Cofidis and Human Powered Health launched moves inside the final kilometer.
Pre-stage favourite Magnus Cort Nielsen managed to take the sprint from the front and held off Giovanni Lonardi and Alejandro Valverde.
