Giulio Ciccone won the stage 2 of Volta Comunitat Valenciana. The Italian that rides for Trek-Segafredo made an attack on the last 300 meters within the general classification favorites group and used his explosive punch power to take the stage win.
Before the begging of the stage, the team leader of Jayco-AIUla, Edward Dunbar did not start due to a crash he suffered in the opening stage. The breakaway formed in the first kms of the race, it had 5 riders most notably the veteran breakaway specialist Alessandro De Marchi (Jayco-AIUla). Samuele Zoccarato got the most mountains points and become the new mountain's classification leader. The break was caught around 6 km to go.

At the penultimate categorized climb race leader Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Circus-Wanty), who crashed earlier, lost the contact with the peloton losing his leader's jersey. INEOS-Grenadiers pulled along the last climb until the last 1.5 km where Brandon McNulty launch an attack that was caught in the last km.
The leaders group arrived together to the last meters, and it was Ciccone won got the better of the uphill sprint ahead of Pello Bilbao (Bahrain-Victorious) and Tao Geoghegan Hart (INEOS-Grenadiers) becoming the new general classification leader.
