It's fair to say that stage 5 of the 2023 Vuelta a Espana has not been a day for Team Jayco AlUla. After Eddie Dunbar crashed in the neutralised zone and was forced to abandon, Filippo Zana has now also left the race.
Unlike his Irish team leader, Zana's abandon doesn't come off the back of a crash. Instead, the Italian has departed the final Grand Tour of the season with a stomach bug.
"Unfortunately Filippo Zana has also abandoned the race on stage 5 after suffering with stomach issues," an official post from the Team Jayco AlUla's social media team reveals. "We will provide a further medical update on Zana and Dunbar following the stage."
