After finishing the queen stage of the Tour de la Provence in 12th place and closing his overall classification in 7th, INEOS Grenadiers leader Filippo Ganna was disqualified from the race after it's finale due to an illegal bike change
The incident took place during the final stage of the Tour de la Provence where it appeared as if Ganna performed a bike change with the help of a fixated staff member, which is currently not allowed by the UCI rules. Bike changes are only allowed coming from the team support cars from behind the peloton and the race commissaires have, after the stage, disqualified the Italian for this occurence.
UCI rule 2.3.031 states "No equipment for riders may be prepared or held ready outside the following vehicle. Persons riding in vehicles shall not reach or lean out". The incident directly broke this rule and the consequences came after the stage had ended.
The stage was won by Nairo Quintana who attacked on the final kilometers of the Montagne du Lure and went on alone to take the overall win alongside.
