Evenepoel "was much more in a hurry than I was" - Primoz Roglic resists Evenepoel raid and secures lead ahead of final Catalunya stage

Remco Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic headlined stage 6 of the Volta a Catalunya, a day that seemed to be for the sprinters. The attack of the World Champion put everyone under pressure, but Roglic had his best legs on the day and managed to cancel the offensive.

“As far as I'm concerned, we just rode calmly to the line, but he was much more in a hurry than I was. Of course I had to follow. The leading group was not yet gone and it went fast. When an opportunity arose to grab some seconds, we quickly decided to go for it," Roglic said in a post-race interview.

It was a sharp attack of Evenepoel in the summit of the final climb of the day. It was a dangerous acceleration as the following kilometers were impossible to put on an organized chase. A well-planned move, but Roglic was strong and reacted. The duo didn't work together however, Roglic was aware of the available bonifications and he didn't want them available.

“I'm enjoying it, it's nice to be back. It is an exciting course," he continued. That led to dissatisfaction from Evenepoel, but it was the sensible decision most agree. Roglic has nevertheless seen his lead cut from 10 to 8 seconds, and will have a hard task in the final day of the race to keep the jersey on his shoulders.
