Einer Rubio worked for Enric Mas in the Tourmalet stage, although he ended up totally out of sorts entering the finish line more than 11 minutes behind the stage winner, Jonas Vingegaard. The Colombian explained after crossing the finish line that he tried to stay with the Mallorcan at all times until the selection of favourites was formed and then he let himself go.

The Colombian is aware that there is still a lot of mountain to climb in the Vuelta and aims to continue helping Movistar Team to achieve the highest possible position with Enric Mas and, as he did in the last Giro d'Italia, try to fight for a partial victory:

"It was a pretty hard stage from the start and I tried to stay with Enric at all times. Now we have to think about tomorrow (referring to today's tough stage on Saturday). For what's left of the Vuelta, we'll try to help the team and try to fight for a stage."
